SMM Advertising Receives Four Folio Awards for Social Media

smmSMM has received four Folio Awards on behalf of its clients. The awards, which were presented at the annual Fair Media Council Folio Awards Luncheon on May 6, 2011 are for social media campaigns that were developed, and are managed, by SMM.

SMM received the following awards:

  • Global Village Award: Suffolk Arts & Film
  • Rising Star Award: Advanced Energy 2010
  • Twitterati Award: Advanced Energy 2010
  • Media Savvy Business Award: Long Island MacArthur Airport

SMM President Charles MacLeod said, “Fair Media Council’s recognition of our work in social media is particularly gratifying for us and our clients. The breadth of our understanding, and expertise in the various applications of social media tools, is evidenced by the number of Folio awards given to us this year. Our hard-working associates should be very proud of their accomplishments.”

Hundreds of journalists, business and community leaders were in attendance at the Luncheon, held at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York, to find out who the public chose as the best in local news and social media. The event kicked off with a live performance by Long Island’s own Robbie Rosen, of American Idol fame. CBS News’ Jim Axelrod delivered the keynote.

The Global Village Folio Award was for Suffolk County’s “Suffolk Arts & Film” campaign, which employs Facebook and Twitter to establish a central resource for art and film lovers, new and upcoming talent, and film and video producers at all levels. The dual role of the Suffolk Arts & Film social media initiative is to increase community awareness of film and cultural venues throughout the County, and build Suffolk County’s reputation as a versatile and desirable location for film and television production.

The Rising Star Award and Twitterati Award were for a social media campaign that promoted Stony Brook University Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center’s annual conference: Advanced Energy 2010. The campaign employed social media as a cost-effective way to reach influential individuals in the energy industry and attract them to attend Advanced Energy 2010, the most comprehensive event of its kind in the Northeast. Using both Facebook and Twitter, the program included a constant stream of live, informative tweets during the conference itself helped connect attendees with speakers and other attendees, inform them about keynote speakers and exhibit/sponsorship availability.

The Media Savvy Business Award was for Long Island MacArthur Airport’s social media campaign, which reinforces LIMA’s “brand” as the traveler-friendly alternative to the expense and inconvenience of major NYC airports. The strategy focuses on effective relationship building through conversational and engaging postings using both Facebook and Twitter. Emphasis is placed on providing time-sensitive customer service support (weather issues, customer questions, complaints, etc.) and detailed flight updates. These practical uses are complemented with relationship-building posts containing text, links, individual photos and photo albums to personalize the airport.
