When Doremus’ New York employees were brainstorming ways to celebrate their company’s 110th anniversary, they took into account what the agency does best: creating business-to-business advertising campaigns for marketers who want to “link” their brand with their core audiences.
What emerged was an idea to hold a competition within Doremus New York, headquarters of the global B2B ad agency, to see who could get linked up with the most people on LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com), the social media site for business executives.
A core group of staffers, who call themselves Red Sumo (an anagram for Doremus), already instigated office-wide initiatives such as coat drives, blood drives, helping the local animal shelter and volunteering in Manhattan’s soup kitchens. But the LinkedIn Challenge, as it came to be called, was different. This was a way to tie in what Doremus does with a real business-related initiative.
“We all use LinkedIn to connect with our business associates,” said Lisa Caselnova, Director of Creative Operations, who helped coordinate the competition. “This seemed like the perfect way to show the importance of business networking, while doing it in a fun way.”
The competition ran from early June and ended on September 30th, reflecting the “110 days of celebration” the agency enjoyed in recognition of its 110th anniversary. The clear winner who added a grand total of 245 contacts to her LinkedIn account was Janessa Gomez, an art director (photo attached). Her nearest competitor came in at 160 new contacts.
