Doremus Staffers Give 110 Percent To Celebrate Company’s 110th 

New York…October 8, 2013… Doremus, the business communications specialist, was founded in 1903 by media mogul Clarence Barron and has a history of successfully creating ads that enhance business outcomes for its clients.

When senior management asked everyone in Doremus’ New York office how they wanted to celebrate the company’s milestone birthday, the response was not surprising. What resulted was an initiative called “Give 110 Percent” with the purpose of driving outcomes, but this time for the New York community. And give they did!

Under the leadership of a core group of employees who call themselves “Red Sumo” (an anagram for Doremus represented by a Sumo warrior posed and ready for action), the “Give 110 Percent” program focuses on a worthy cause every month.
 
Some of the causes include:

Animal Haven: A contingent from Doremus New York helped the nonprofit (that finds homes and provides behavior intervention for abandoned dogs and cats) by cleaning cages, walking the dogs and playing with the animals (www.animalhavenshelter.org).

Operation Backpack through Volunteers of America: Doremus staffers donated cash and/or bought backpacks and stuffed them with school supplies for New York City children living in homeless and domestic violence shelters. Many of these children would otherwise have returned to school this year with little more than a used pencil. (www.voa.org)

Red Cross Blood Drive: In partnership with upstairs advertising neighbor Merkley + Partners, the agency rolled up its sleeves and held a blood drive at its Doremus’ 200 Varick Street headquarters. The turnout from both companies was so successful that the Red Cross is working with Doremus to do it again this February.  (www.redcross.org/ny/newyork)

New York Cares: Every Fall the agency collects gently used coats for New York Cares’ annual coat drive. Staffers also answer letters to Santa from needy New York City children through the New York Cares Winter Wishes program. In conjunction with these programs, the agency holds a canned food drive in time for the holidays.

Soup Kitchens: Doremus New York employees are regular volunteers at several midtown Manhattan soup kitchens, serving breakfast and spending time with the guests.     

Melissa Burzichelli (media planner) and Angela Chu ( account executive) guided the “Give 110 Percent” program, propelling their fellow staffers to action. “We all wanted to do something for our company’s anniversary that represented who we are,” said Angela, “and we’re about making a difference.” Melissa added, “Parties are nice, but we all know that you can’t replace the great feeling that comes from giving to those who really need it.”
