Chicago, IL (January 13, 2013) – Starcom USA CEO Lisa Donohue today announced the appointment of two extremely skilled industry leaders to the agency’s senior management board.
Jens Welin has joined executive vice president/managing director, and is relocating to the company’s headquarters in Chicago from Sweden, where he was most recently serving as global growth director for Starcom MediaVest Group EMEA. He will lead the agency’s Best Buy and Beam Inc. accounts and will report directly to Donohue, serving as a member of the agency’s management board.
Welin has vast experience in the industry. He founded Sandberg Media in Sweden in 1995, becoming CEO in 1999, and then selling to BCOM3 in 2001 at which point he was elected CEO of the Nordics with the charge of growing the Starcom brand the region. Ultimately he served as CEO of Starcom Group, and then PGM Nordics until he was named CEO/Chairman of Vivaki Nordics in 2009, serving on the global leadership team for both Vivaki and SMG. During his tenure, Starcom Sweden became the most awarded agency in the Nordics, with Starcom Stockholm and Starcom Norway both named "Media Agency of the Year" by the Festival of Media in 2007 and 2011 respectively.
Welin studied business administration at LaGrange College in Georgia and Economics at the University of Stockholm. He, his wife and two daughters will be relocating to Chicago.
“Jens is a true business builder and represents the best of the best from our global SMG network,” said Donohue. “We’re thrilled to have someone of his caliber adding his expertise to advance Starcom, and our clients, in the US.”
Additionally, Lisa Hurwitz has joined Starcom USA as executive vice president/managing director for P&G North America Communications Planning. She will report to Donohue and PG Global lead Sarah Kramer and will also serve on the Starcom USA management board.
Hurwitz comes from Arc Worldwide, where she served as EVP/group account director leading the shopper, digital and eCommerce business for P&G in North America, as well as the P&G lead for Arc globally. Her passion for the intersection of shopper marketing and digital innovation has led her to create the eCommerce and social commerce practice areas within Arc, as well as hold seats on Google’s Shopper Marketing Council and Groupon’s Agency Advisory Board.
Since 2003, Hurwitz has worn many different hats: digital marketer, new business leader, account director, and shopper marketing lead. Her integrated background served her well for the five years she led new business across Arc, and eventually Leo Burnett North America, winning assignments for BlackBerry, Comcast, and Harrah’s. Before joining Arc, Lisa spent several years at Razorfish building the digital agency’s web design, development and interactive marketing offerings.
Hurwitz was recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business in December as one of the publication’s 2013 “30 Under 30” honorees. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, and while a New Yorker at heart, she, her husband and two sons call Chicago home.
“As the intersections of creativity, media and technology only continue to amplify the importance and opportunities within shopper marketing, mobile and eCommerce, Lisa’s unique skills will only continue to amplify our approach to P&G, and I’m sure foster inspiration and ignite possibilities across the agency,” added Donohue. “We’re thrilled to have her talents on our team.”
