4A's Guidance: If It Sounds Too Good to Be True...Investigate Very Carefully

If you receive a solicitation that sounds to good to be true and "only" requires a small initial payment from your agency to qualify for the big revenue assignment, trust your instincts; conduct a thorough due diligence review and check out references.
 
Background
 
Members of the agency community, from coast to coast, have been receiving complex solicitations about potential business development opportunities wrapped in the prospect of potentially lucrative monetary rewards. As an example, solicitations have referred to Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits, fuel from Brazil, flex fuel, new bio-efficient materials or parts, big name car companies, Fortune 100 retailers, overseas intermediary brokers, and solutions companies. The monetary references have been as high as 100 Million Euros per annum with as much one-third of the prize available to an agency.
 
The agencies that were solicited had the initial reaction, on receiving this proposition, that this sounds too good to be true. Fortunately, many agencies aggressively conducted due diligence and confirmed their skepticism.
