The AAAA Professional Liability Program, which currently insures 250 AAAA members and protects their advertising product against third-party suits, found a new insurance carrier, AXIS Capital, a leading global specialty insurer and re-insurer. The new policy form rivals and—in many areas—improves upon those offered by competitors. The Cyber Liability option policy is increasingly in demand as it insures the ever-expanding digital activities performed by agencies for their clients.
The AAAA Workers’ Compensation Program covered 275 members and almost $25 million of premium this past year. The cost efficiency of the program was again demonstrated by a dividend payment of 42.5 percent of premium or more than $10 million dollars paid to participating agencies.
Performer Union Issues
After an extensive review of candidates, the ANA-AAAA Joint Policy Committee on Talent Union Relations (JPC), the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) jointly selected the firm Booz Allen Hamilton to conduct a major industry study on alternative methods of compensation to performers in commercials. The study, which is expected to be completed in early 2008, is investigating alternative methods that will more accurately reflect the present-day media landscape and advertisers’ focus on ROI.
Additionally, the JPC successfully completed negotiations with the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) on a new twoyear contract covering music tracks produced for commercials.
In 2007, the AAAA researched about 14,000 projects for 89 percent our members, and also produced a number of original research documents, including a statistical report on
new products, media account consolidations and nontraditional services offered by agencies.
O'Toole Awards for Creative Excellence: The profile of the AAAA O’Toole Awards for Creative Excellence continued to grow in 2007. This year marked the introduction of the new O’TooleBox category to recognize an agency’s body of work for a single campaign idea across different points of contact. The proceeds of the awards program were earmarked for the AAAA Foundation, Inc, which awards scholarships to multicultural students of the advertising arts.
Jay Chiat Planning Awards: The AAAA Jay Chiat Planning Awards is the only awards program in the United States that celebrates the contributions of account planning. In 2007, the awards program introduced an “International Category” for creative that originated outside of North America. This made the AAAA Jay Chiat Planning Awards a truly global award.
