Draftfcb New York Welcomes Jill Applebaum as SVP/Group Creative Director

draftfcbDraftfcb New York has further fortified its creative ranks with the hire of Jill Applebaum, who has joined the agency from Young & Rubicam/BrandBuzz as SVP, Group Creative Director. In her new role, Applebaum will helm creative efforts for key accounts including Oreo and Gevalia. Applebaum’s appointment comes on the heels of Roald van Wyk’s hiring last month from Publicis Modem. Both report to recently appointed Draftfcb New York Chief Creative Officer Darren Moran.

As Creative Director at Y&R/BrandBuzz, Applebaum developed and oversaw TV, print, interactive and integrated campaigns for Burt’s Bees, the New Jersey Nets, Dymo, Sharpie and LG Electronics, among others. Her responsibilities included assisting in the agency’s recruitment and new business efforts. Before her tenure at Y&R, Applebaum was a senior copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather for marquee accounts such as Jaguar, Maxwell House, NTB National Tire and Battery and Ford Corporate.

“Jill has gained a reputation as a real writer’s writer,” said Moran. “She can craft stories that are sweet, tender, celebratory or inspirational just as easily as she can turn a phrase that’s witty, wry, cynical or outrageous. She’s a big-idea visionary who has proven herself adept at coming up with multi-channel experiences that are smart, simple and engaging.”

As a leader, “hard work, contagious passion and unrelenting defense of great ideas” have earned Applebaum the respect of creative teams, Moran added.

Applebaum said she is excited by the challenge the opportunity at the agency affords. “I’m thrilled to offer my creative talents to an agency recognized for effective, evocative work that truly connects with consumers,” she said. “I’m eager to contribute to the strategic vision of the agency.”
