Fernando Espejel Honored with AAF’s Diversity Achievement Role Model Award

Chicago, IL – May 30, 2014 – Fernando “Nando” Espejel, vice president, director of digital platforms for FCB Chicago, received the American Advertising Federation’s  2014 Diversity Achievement Role Model Award. Espejel was honored at an award ceremony last night in Boca Raton, Florida, during ADMERICA! 2014, AAF’s national conference on advertising.

The Diversity Achievement and Mosaic Awards are part of AAF’s programming designed to celebrate diversity and provide opportunities for advancement within the industry. The Role Model award recognizes an individual who demonstrates a high degree of success in his or her career and motivates others to do the same.

“AAF has a true commitment to diversity and inclusion and the Diversity Achievement and Mosaic Awards work toward a great mission,” said Espejel. “I’m humbled and honored that they’ve recognized me as a role model.”

Espejel oversees FCB Chicago’s mobile, social media and business analysis teams and advises clients on the day-to-day management of all digital platforms and products. His leadership includes translating clients’ business goals into functional requirements for teams across internal design and development, technology/user experience and creative. He works closely with multicultural creative, account and strategic planning teams on multiple accounts.

“Nando’s focus, drive and enthusiasm transcend his day-to-day projects to create a larger cultural impact on our agency,” said FCB Chicago President Michael Fassnacht. “He embodies the term ‘role model,’ leading by example and providing encouragement and guidance to those who work with him.”

Espejel’s impact extends outside the office and into the Chicago community. For the last several years, he has volunteered with Latino Youth, a non-profit charter high school on Chicago’s southwest side. He serves in a big brother capacity, providing guidance and mentorship to the students as they face and deal with difficult situations.
