Lightening the Mental Load That Holds Women Back

Boston Consulting Group (BCG) surveyed more than 6,500 employees in committed relationships in 14 countries to determine who bears responsibility for common household tasks.

While many couples share chores, women were 1.9 times more likely than men to have primary responsibility for planning them. Check out the breakdown for laundry, cooking, cleaning, dishes, groceries, bills/finance, yard work, and handyman jobs.

BCG also provides recommendations for companies to lighten the mental load on women through workplace policies and changing consumer thinking through advertising, as well as suggestions for men and women to make chore responsibility more balanced.
