Have any agencies expressed interest in the program?
Yes, we have several agencies that have signed on as pilot partners and others that have expressed an interest. It’s clear that there are industry leaders who recognize the need for continued conversation and consistent action to build more enlightened workplaces.
Why is the 4A’s launching this program? What’s the end goal?
The 4A’s is entering this endeavor with the aim to change mindsets and open perspectives in the fight for a safer agency workplace. Beyond the responsibilities of our day-to-day role, there’s a level of accountability and responsibility we all have to growing and transforming our mindsets.
It’s our mission to move the industry forward. We see the 4A’s Workplace Enlightenment™ Certification as an opportunity for us to empower agencies to think differently and connect with each other differently.
What makes the 4A’s qualified to teach people how to behave in the workplace?
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is authorizing the 4A’s to provide credentials to organizations that have established the appropriate policies, training and conditions for people to thrive, and to provide awards and certificates to individuals who complete the training.
We’ve also entered partnerships with the Pacific Educational Group’s founder, Glenn Singleton, and Barbara Tint, global trainer and professor of conflict transformation, to build the training and learning experiences offered in the program.
What are your thoughts on @dietmadisonave?
It’s important to have consistent dialogue around issues of harassment, inequality, discrimination, etc. in the workplace – especially because so many who are victims of those behaviors don’t feel safe speaking out. What the 4A’s hopes to do with WEC is elevate that conversation into action by empowering agency leaders with tools that not only help them identify when this behavior is taking place but also helps them ‘enlighten’ and educate their employees in a way that eventually eliminates the behavior. And we hope to do this for all forms of inappropriate behavior from sexual harassment to racism, ageism, ableism, homophobia, etc.
Why does the certification program target agency leaders?
Change starts at the top and it’s important that the agency leaders demonstrate to their teams that they are setting the tone for a workplace that’s inclusive across the board.
How long will it take an agency to go through this process?
As the 4A’s looks into building out our content partners, we look forward to accurately assessing the required time commitment for agency partners to undergo 4A’s Workplace Enlightenment™ Certification.
Certification will require a significant amount of time commitment, given the importance of the issues we will be covering. This initial investment, along with constant reassessment of your internal process and standards, ensures our mutual dedication to creating a safer agency environment at your office.
Can freelancers sign up?
As an important part of the industry’s workforce, freelancers are welcome to take part in the 4A’s Workplace Enlightenment™ Certification. All members of our industry are invited to open their mindset through our offering.
Who are your content partners?
We are excited to announce GLAAD and AARP among our content partners, and will continue to finalize additional partners.
Is there a cost?
Agencies will have to commit to an investment in the program. The cost will vary depending on how agencies use the program to complement existing training. We’ll share the different pricing structures closer to launch.
What does a workplace enlightened certified agency look like?
A Workplace Enlightened-certified agency is one that has reviewed all learning elements and established policies, standards and practices toward a more equitable work environment. In an equitable workspace, we see progress toward a more even distribution of difference across every level of an organization.
An enlightened workplace is also one that is much more connected to social justices and injustices such that it fosters an environment where people are able to dialogue about tough and taboo issues and reach resolution on behaviors that are damaging or diminishing to any particular group.
How is the 4A’s enlightening the workplace?
Will organizations be publicly identified as certified?
We will not be publicizing Workplace Enlightenment-certified agencies, in the interest of allowing each agency to determine publicity on their own.
