Charlotte Beers Breaks a Gender Barrier

Charlotte Beers held many executive positions throughout her career: Senior Vice President of JWT, CEO of Tatham-Laird & Kudner, CEO of Ogilvy & Mather and Under Secretary of State. In 1986, she became the first female 4A’s Chairman of the Board, on which she served until 1988. Beers is known for her strides to help break the glass ceiling for working women, a key topic in her book I’d Rather Be in Charge.

(The second female 4A’s chairman was Shelly Lazarus, O&M; who served from 1999–2000.)
