Dawn of Social Media Era

Facebook started as a way for Harvard students to check each other out. It grew to be the most ubiquitous social media platform of the early 21st century. (And was followed by Twitter.) Shortly after, the birth of Youtube.com, Pinterest, Instagram and Snapchat enabled everyone to communicate visually. It also shifted control away from marketers and placed it in the hands of consumers, who were empowered with real-time feedback tools.
