Position Background
The 4As is the voice of the agency community across America. The global ad industry is set to pass $1 Trillion in spend this year. The US is set to have $491 billion of that spend. And represent 20% of US GDP. So, to be the voice of the industry is a real and unique honor. The things we do, stand for, and advocate for shape the direction of our industry. Over a 108-year history the 4As has gone from reacting to member organization needs and key industry topics to the organization today which must set agendas, continually represent the broad agency community, and amplify its constituents’ voice in a more complex ecosystem of brands, platforms, creators, technology solutions and clients.
Position Overview
This senior level leadership role is responsible for financial and accounting operations, treasury and banking functions, and statutory tax compliance for 4As and its subsidiary entities. It includes the production of financial reports, maintenance of a superior quality system of accounting records, internal control environment and audit relationships, plus budget and forecasting oversight. The position will maintain critical relationships with business unit executives, and provide strategic and commercial leadership input aligned with the Company’s strategy.
This position reports into the Chief Executive Officer and together aligns business and commercial strategy to lead the 4As forward.
Position Responsibilities
Core responsibilities and tasks include:
- Partner with the CEO to develop the commercial strategy for the business
- Develop and prepare the presentation of detailed financial plans
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s objectives
- Develop and monitor accounting processes, practices and policies and a robust internal controls environment
- Ensure the progressive use of technology and process design to ensure a future-ready accounting function
- Oversee financial operations including billing, credit, collections, vendor and staff disbursements and payroll operations
- Monthly financial management reporting, business and strategic analysis and executive updates
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of organization’s operations
- Oversee statutory audit deliverables and manage audit relationships
- Comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings including 990 and CHAR returns
- Serve as Plan sponsor for the Company’s 401(k) retirement plan
- Serve as financial partner in the portfolio strategy for the 4As Reserve fund
- Manage all banking, treasury functions, plus relationship with investment and advisory firm for Company’s reserved fund portfolio
- Complete the annual budget and financial planning process, and develop fluid, recurring forecasting methodology
- Responsible for the integrity and development of all key financial systems and platforms
- Serve as key partner and liaison to executive team and 4As oversight Committees
Legal & Governance:
- Liaison with 4As outside General Counsel (Venable) on all financial, commercial and governance issues
- Partner with BU leads to review all contracts related to vendors, leases, licenses, sponsors, partners, and other key agreements (e.g., NDA’s), to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and protect the organization’s interests
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate business transactions, strategic partnerships and joint ventures
Subsidiary & Business Oversight:
- Executive partnering with 4As Benefits, a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary of the 4As
- Support goals and operational needs of subsidiaries including 4As Foundation and Coalition for Healthcare Communications (CHC) regarding finances and operational support
- Ensure guidance and support of the AD-ID business (a for-profit joint venture with the ANA)
Position Requirements
- BA in Accounting or Business or comparable experience
- Fifteen years of experience in progressively responsible Accounting and Financial roles
- Demonstrated successful relationship building and leadership skills
- Experience of defining commercial strategy and enabling business strategy to work commercially
- In-depth understanding of the Sage Intaact or similar General Ledger and reporting systems
- Ability to develop and analyze data using MS and Google products and tools
- Experience in Advertising industry desirable
- Experience in Not-for-Profit or trade association industry desirable
- Ability to lead a function to define a strategy for adoption of AI and lead the execution (with partners)
