Overview

Company Summary

From the beginning, mcgarrybowen was built differently, on the simple premise that clients deserve better. So we built a company committed to delivering just that. A company that believes, with every fiber of its being, that it exists to serve clients, build brands, and grow businesses. We are gracious and uncommonly tenacious at the same time. We think the only award that really matters is the growth of a client's business. We don't have a signature creative style and are not wed to any predetermined media solution. We are smart and strategically driven thinkers digging into our clients' businesses with a unique perspective to help solve their toughest challenges. We succeed by doing what's right for the brand, the client, and, most importantly, their business. We practice something more than mere "integration." Maybe it should be called "unification." We built an agency from the ground up—organically—with one P&L, one point of contact, and a single-minded focus on creating big ideas and organizing ideas. All that, and an equally adamant focus on delivering those ideas anywhere and everywhere that customers interact with our brands.

Gordon Bowen
Founder, Chairman, and Chief Creative Officer
Gordon Bowen heralds one of the most diverse and celebrated careers on Madison Avenue. TIME magazine labeled him a creator of “emotional blockbusters,” and his legendary “Membership Has Its Privileges” campaign for American Express has been named AdvertisingAge’s “Campaign of the Decade.” He has worked previously at J. Walter Thompson, Ogilvy & Mather, McCann Erickson, Young & Rubicam, and was the Creative Director for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games. Founded by John McGarry and Gordon Bowen in 2002, mcgarrybowen is one of the fastest-growing agencies in advertising history and was named the Advertising Age “Agency of the Year” twice. Under Bowen’s leadership, dentsuMcgarrybowen is becoming more digital, more blended, more global, and more focused on content and delivery across channels.

Jennifer Zimmerman
Global Chief Strategic Officer
Jennifer Zimmerman has a lot of things to think about. Things like clients, brands, marketing challenges, and consumers. Which is why she loves her daily commute on Metro-North. It gives her quality time to think about those very things, and as a result, the seeds of many of mcgarrybowen's biggest ideas have taken root somewhere between Westport, Connecticut and Grand Central Station.

As Global Chief Strategic Officer, Jennifer oversees the planning and strategy teams in mcgarrybowen's offices around the world, and is responsible for the strategic thinking and product for all of our North American and global clients. In addition, Jennifer is charged with spearheading mcgarrybowen's proprietary strategic process across our network and continues to serve as executive lead on some of our most important client partnerships.

After joining mcgarrybowen in 2003, she quickly became an integral part of the senior leadership team that has helped fuel our incredible growth and unprecedented success. The architect of the agency's masterbranding process, Jennifer has created a refreshingly unique and simple strategic philosophy designed to get to big, iconic ideas that have the power to transform client brands and businesses.

A 25-year industry veteran, Jennifer spent a large part of her career at Y&R Advertising and Wunderman NY where she served as EVP, Director of Strategy. There, she oversaw strategic work for clients like AT&T, American Express, Citibank, Merck, Sears, and Sony, among many others.

A Wesleyan University graduate, Jennifer lives in Westport with her husband, Gary, and their two children. She is an avid crossword puzzler and a bona fide shoe hound—she recently was named “Most Surprisingly Rugged” on her family’s whitewater rafting trip through the Grand Canyon.

Ned Crowley
Global Chief Creative Officer
Faced with the challenge of opening a mcgarrybowen office in Chicago, we started as always with a big, organizing idea (hire exceptional people), and then tailored it to the specific market (hire exceptional Chicagoans). The approach paid off in spades when Ned Crowley left his influential post at Leo Burnett to join us, establishing us off the bat as a viable player in a competitive Chicago market, while also making us feel welcome in sweet home Chicago.

Ned is a one-man walking ad agency. Formally educated in business, with history as an illustrator, writer, and performer, he's a natural fit in the world of advertising. Over his 20+ year career, Ned has risen to be recognized as one of Chicago’s top creative talents, with an unsurpassed reputation for big ideas, humorous storytelling, and hard-earned results.

Highly awarded and Emmy-nominated, Ned has touched every industry over the past two decades, while at the same time adding a few children’s books and feature films to his credit. At the peak of a long career at Leo Burnett, Ned decided to forgo a run at the top when we came calling, and what began as two-guys-in-a-room in 2007 flourished into a 230+ employee, fully integrated, digitally savvy, idea-centric shop in the heart of Chicago.

Jon Dupuis
Global President
Jon has over 20 years of experience, all working on the agency side of the business, from large, global agencies like McCann Erickson to his own independent agency. Jon has put his MBA to work growing global brands like Callaway Golf, WD-40, and Bumble Bee Seafoods before starting his own agency in 2002, NYCA. As one of the founding partners, Jon not only helped grow the TaylorMade-adidas Golf and ViewSonic brands, he helped grow NYCA from two people to sixty-five people and twelve accounts.

In 2008, Jon came back to NYC to operationally structure Cossette-NY, Canada’s largest agency network. After helping facilitate the sale of Cossette-NY, Jon joined Digitas to help lead the American Express business. For nearly seven years, Jon oversaw all digital communications across brand, loyalty, and acquisition for Amex. In 2017, Jon decided to help the Havas network as Chief Performance Marketing Officer to blend P&Ls across media and creative, but his heart still belonged to American Express, so when the opportunity to join denstuMB as the Global Lead across Amex opened up, he jumped at the chance to join.

In late 2019, Jon was appointed as Global President. In his new role, Jon works to strengthen and build dentsuMcgarrybowen’s offerings in key markets, in addition to overseeing the global American Express relationship.
