Overview

Company Summary

We're small and you can be too. Small is nimble. Small operates in real time without unnecessary layers. Small has smaller egos. It answers the phone when you call and says thank you to its employees and its partners. Small sees everything as an opportunity. Because small hasn't forgotten where it comes from or where it’s going. And no matter how big small gets, it will always be small.

Thomas Dooley
CEO, Executive Design Director
Thomas went to school to become a doctor but dropped out to do something more fun and generally less bloody. Believing that design was an undervalued marketing weapon, Thomas made a name for himself in the bike industry by developing international brands with little regard to following the established rules of advertising. He has fostered TDA’s growth through his antagonistic viewpoint, and while the agency and its capabilities have matured over the years, much to the benefit of its culture, Thomas has not.

Jonathan Schoenberg
Executive Creative Director
Jonathan is a barista, bartender, copywriter, creative director and co-owner at TDA. He has been friends and partners with Thomas Dooley since 1998. During that time, the agency has evolved and grown but is still committed to creating communication that makes people care about companies.

Jonathan's work has been recognized in Communication Arts Advertising Annual, One Show, Kelly Awards, Clios, The Andy Awards, The Obies, D&AD, Cannes Advertising Festival and the NY Art Directors Awards. He has written a short film that was part of the Steven Spielberg’s Fox TV show, “On the Lot”, and co-created a viral video called “Angry Professor” that was featured on ABC News, MSNBC, CNN, and the O’Reilly Report. It was one of the "Viral videos of the Year" on VH1, and has received over five million views on YouTube.

In his spare time, Jonathan has been an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado since 1998 and was Adjunct Professor of the Year in 2011. He is an Advisory Board Member for Hillel and the non-profit Move, which provides fitness for underserved youth, and is a Board Member for Wavi, a medical software company, and Sir Richard's Condom Company. Jonathan graduated from Hobart College and attended the Writer's Program at Columbia University.

Jeremy Siebold
Creative Director
Jeremy started his career at TDA as an apprentice in 2001. After working his way up to copywriter, he left for San Francisco and a position with Venables Bell and Partners, where his time was divided between HBO, Barclays and pondering why the summer was cold and October was hot. Although this was both fun and intriguing, Jeremy returned to Boulder in 2007 to join Crispin Porter + Bogusky, where he worked on the Burger King, Compass Bank and Coke Zero campaigns.

In the spring of 2008, Jeremy and TDA bumped into each other on the sidewalk. There was moment of awkward silence, followed by a rush of emotion and very big hug. They’ve been living happily ever after ever since. Jeremy has been recognized for his work in print, outdoor, online and television and has been featured in the One Show, ANDY’s, OBIE’s, Communication Arts and the International Cannes Festival.

Ashley Alsup
Director of Strategy + Innovation
Ashley is charged with leading TDA’s research, strategy and innovation capabilities. She joined TDA as Director of Strategy + Innovation in July 2011 from Crispin Porter + Bogusky, where she headed planning on Burger King and American Express. Prior to that, she worked for seven years in London at Bartle Bogle Hegarty and AMV BBDO.

She led planning on Johnnie Walker Global from BBH London in the early 00s, helping to create a bottom-up strategic process for key markets under the ‘Keep Walking’ banner. She also helped revive the Guinness brand in the UK, creating a strategic process that led to ‘noitulovE,’ the most awarded TV ad of 2005. She considers these her years of ‘proper British planning.’

Ashley’s work has been recognized by the APG UK, D&AD and The Effies, including the 2008 Grand Prix for ‘Whopper Freakout’ and the 2009 Silver for ‘Whopper Sacrifice.’

Matt Leavitt
Associate Creative Director
After studying at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Matt took his first position in advertising as an art director at TDA in 1996. He stayed three years and then moved on, honing his skills in New York, San Francisco and most recently, at Crispin Porter + Bogusky. Matt’s unique skill set combines thoughtful art director with obsessive-compulsive designer. He believes that while advertising often plays the hero role in communication, it is wasted if the product’s design and identity don’t meet the expectations created by the work.

Matt has successfully created iconic branding for Geek Squad, VW, Yogi Tea, Niketown, Docker’s and Domino’s. When he’s not working or hanging with the family, you’ll probably find him wrenching on one of his five hobby vehicles—an off-road rally racecar and a ’76 Alfa Romeo GTV being the most in need of attention at the moment.

Sarah Tefs
Media Director
Sarah joined TDA from Crispin Porter + Bogusky, where she handled both local and national media for Burger King, Jose Cuervo and Hulu. She moved to Colorado in 2007 from Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she worked at Fallon, primarily on the Citi account.

At TDA, Sarah leads the Media Planning department and makes sure that the big idea is seen by the consumer. She works closely with Strategy, Creative and Account Management to ensure that the art of advertising and the science of media planning walk hand-in-hand.

Christi Tucay
Account Director
Christi brings over 10 years of account management experience and work ranging from social issue marketing to technology to consumer packaged goods. Prior to joining TDA in June 2010, she spent time at the Integer Group, managing global shopper marketing and e-retail on the Pampers brand.

Before moving to Colorado, she worked at several creative agencies in her native Los Angeles including 180LA and TBWAChiatDay, on campaigns for brands such as Nestle Nesquik, Pedigree and Sony Electronics. Christi’s work on the Sony HDNA campaign was recognized for its effectiveness with a bronze Effie and she was integral in the success of TDA’s Social Media Sobriety Test for Webroot, which was recognized by the One Show, the ANDY’s and the International Cannes Festival.

Danielle Borden
Account Director
Danielle’s history with the agency is a unique one, in that her life here began as a client. In 2005, she was the Director of Marketing for Outlast Technologies, where she had just overseen the successful repositioning of the brand platform from the outdoor market into fashion; resulting in a 40% growth over her final two years. Having fostered this change while working hand-in-hand with TDA, Danielle saw the potential for bringing her experience to other companies. She joined TDA later that year and has since led campaigns for USA Network, L.L.Bean, Pepsi, General Electric, Avery Brewing and 1% For The Planet.

Danielle currently oversees FirstBank, which under her guidance has seen record growth in spite of one of the worst economies in 50 years and a general hatred towards banks.
