Overview

Company Summary

Translation is a creative solutions company that pushes culture forward. We believe the most powerful force for creating financial capital is cultural capital. Culture doesn’t just shape perception, it drives commerce. Translation was built to help ambitious brands harness culture not as a campaign tactic, but as an economic engine that unlocks growth and creates lasting impact. For more than 20 years, we’ve partnered with brands and creators to build disruptive platforms that prove the value of cultural capital. From Super Bowl commercials to music festivals, sneakers, and one of the most iconic sports sponsorships in history, our work shows how culture can be translated into community, loyalty, and measurable business results. Unlike agencies that simply claim to be “about culture,” we’re structurally designed around it. Our process blends Culture + Technology + Storytelling to identify, activate, and scale cultural truths that connect people and brands in ways that traditional segmentation models no longer can. We uncover overlooked truths, elevate them to movements, and make the invisible impossible to ignore. Our focus spans the four most influential pillars of culture: Sport, Music, Entertainment, and Social Justice. Within each, we’ve built the fluency to grow fanbases, launch movements, and foster communities that transform reputations and drive revenue. We architect exchanges of cultural capital that deliver shared financial gains for brands and creators alike.

Steve Stoute
Founder + CEO
Steve Stoute is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the innovative and industry-leading marketing firm Translation. For more than a decade, he has worked to identify and activate a new generation of consumers on behalf of iconic brands such as State Farm, Jeep, and the NBA—helping them thrive in the changing cultural climate.

Stoute has orchestrated a seemingly endless list of groundbreaking creative and strategic executions, serving as the brains behind classic campaigns such as McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It” featuring Justin Timberlake, and the instantly iconic Apple “Chapters” campaign starring Mary J. Blige, Taraji P. Henson, and Kerry Washington. He was recognized as one of Fast Company’s “Most Creative People in Business” in 2014 and named “Executive of the Year” by Advertising Age in 2013. In 2009, the American Advertising Federation inducted Stoute into the Advertising Hall of Achievement.

In 2011, Stoute added “author” to his list of accomplishments with the release of his acclaimed book, The Tanning of America, which teaches corporate America how to engage with today’s young adult market. Before founding Translation, Steve spent ten years as a senior executive at a series of leading music labels, including Sony and Interscope Geffen A&M Records.

Ann Wool
President
Ann Wool joined Translation in March ‘20 from Omnicom agency Ketchum where she was Chief Integration Officer, overseeing the NA digital, analytics, entertainment + sport, creative, content and issues teams. She built a fully integrated global sports & entertainment capability to connect brands to all aspects of culture through celebrity and partnerships. Her sports team spanned across the company's network of US and international offices. A known leader in the sports and sponsorship arena with a unique track record for award-winning working in the Olympics, she led the agency into becoming a player in the rapidly growing world of esports and gaming. In 2014 she led Ketchum to be an early worldwide adopter of influencer marketing through unique use of data and technology to engage hard-to-reach target audiences. She also launched Ketchum Sounds, a music marketing group through attracting talent from the music industry which connected artists and music with brands. Her clients included Samsung and P&G for their award-winning Olympic work, esports leaders Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch and Call of Duty Leagues, MasterCard, Pernod Ricard and many, many others.

Ann has served as a Cannes Lions and CLIO Sport juror and has received professional accolades from Adweek, Crain’s New York and Sports Business Journal, to name a few.
