Midterm election day 2022 was November 8, 2022, and voters across the country considered significant issues ranging from the economy, immigration, and gun control to abortion, crime, and preserving democracy.
As anticipated, Democrats lost majority control of the House of Representatives, but only by a very slim margin.The election showed that candidate quality matters, as do issues (e.g., inflation, abortion, crime) and voter enthusiasm. After holding all their current seats and getting a pickup in Pennsylvania, the Senate remains in Democratic control. A Georgia Senate runoff is scheduled for December 6 to determine the final Senate split, after neither the Republican or Democratic Senate candidate received a majority of the votes.
The 2022 federal midterm elections, including the shift away from one-party majority rule in Congress, are expected to have a significant impact on the trajectory of the federal health care policy debate.
