Oklahoma Legislature Passes 2026’s First Omnibus Privacy Law
After seven years of legislative activity and debate, the Oklahoma Legislature has passed SB 546, an omnibus consumer privacy bill that establishes new data privacy rights for Oklahoma residents and new compliance obligations for businesses operating in the state. Governor Kevin Stitt (R) is expected to sign the measure soon, formally enacting it.
While Oklahoma’s law follows many familiar elements from other state privacy statutes, and is most similar to the Virginia privacy law, its passage underscores the growing complexity agencies and advertisers face in navigating a patchwork of state requirements. This expanding patchwork underscores the continued importance of federal privacy legislation that would provide a uniform national standard.
