State Privacy Laws in 2025: What’s New and What’s Next
It’s becoming increasingly possible that 2025 may come and go without the enactment of a new state comprehensive privacy law. However, state legislatures have remained highly active in adjacent areas—advancing legislation on children’s online safety, AI-specific privacy measures, and sectoral rules governing emerging technologies. Several states have also enacted notable amendments to existing privacy statutes, drawing on early enforcement insights and aiming for greater consistency amid the growing patchwork of laws nationwide.
