Brands need to recalibrate job roles with a stronger emphasis on learning
- Only 38 percent of marketers say their companies are committed to internal training, even as artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes every role in the marketing organization.
- Entry-level and associate in-house marketing jobs dropped 8.6 percent between 2024 and 2025, raising concerns about eroding the apprenticeship model.
- Leading brands are building AI learning communities, redesigning junior roles, and embracing neurodiversity to develop more resilient marketing teams.
While cutting costs may be tempting, companies should be wary of shedding early-career roles, says Sylvia Banderas Coffinet, EVP of people, talent, and upskilling at the 4As. “We’re seeing the bottom of the talent pyramid being hollowed out, and we’re unintentionally eroding the apprenticeship model,” she says. “The entry level is meant to be a laboratory for human development and learning through doing. It begs the question, where are we going to get our senior leaders in 2030 and 2035?”
