4A’s 2023 Billing Rate Benchmark Survey Report – Now available!

We are excited to share that the 4A’s 2023 Billing Rate Benchmark (aka Labor Billing Rate) Survey Report, which covers 2023 hourly billing rates is now available.

As the demand for hourly billing rate information from our members, marketers, and industry advisors persists, it is important to continue to provide access to this essential data to support our members.

We hope this survey serves as a reliable framework for both agencies and advertisers when establishing benchmarks and pricing. It is intended to promote the idea that agency pricing should align with agency services in the marketplace and reflect the value of services and deliverables as well as quality and reputation. This data, coupled with best practice guidance, provides stakeholders with a sound mechanism for discussing pricing as well as allows the parties to focus on the critical tasks of aligning: scope of deliverables, service expectations, the desired scope outcomes, and the advertisers’ goals.

Why Is Labor Billing Rate Survey Information Important?

  • Rate pricing for services is still the predominant form of compensation in our industry.
  • Agencies are under pressure to justify their rates as reasonable and competitive.
  • Accurate hourly rate information from a reliable source provides a reference point for agencies to use to assess and support their hourly billing rates.
  • Clients are pressing to gather agency labor rate benchmarks; however, most clients and their consultants lack the breath and scale to aggregate credible industry labor rate information.
  • Transparent industry rate information that discloses survey respondents’ rates for major industry service functions and identifies scale and location differences in rate ranges.
  • Average actual hourly billing rates charged is still the most used methodology for bench-marking rates.
